My Life in Design is a celebration of what we all love to do — live, love and decorate!
I believe it’s your birthright to live in a place that inspires and nurtures you which is why I’m dedicating this blog to cultivating a true sense of place both in your home and in your life. Not the one your favorite television decorator espouses or the one this week’s red carpet celebrity has envisioned for you; but the one you and only you are destined to inhabit.
I began a life in interior design for one simple reason: as a gateway into people’s homes, and ultimately their hearts. As a self-taught designer, I never imagined I would have the eyes and ears of so many people from around the world. From the U.S. to Uganda, the Baltics to Brazil; thousands of you have reached out through my website and social media to share your stories, your design dilemmas or just say hello.
Thank you for your all your emails and posts. They have decorated my world with incredible joy. And although I’ve responded to nearly every email, in many cases, I wish I could have said more. More direction on your design challenges, more insight into your clutter issues and more words of encouragement when you needed it most. This is why I decided to start this blog.
Forthright and informational, My Life in Design is about creating lives worth living in homes worth inhabiting and to prove once and for all that some of the best decorating ideas comes from the minds of real people. To this end, my goal is to share with you what I know best so that you can share with the world what you know best. And if we can laugh a little along the way—all the better.
To start things off, I want to share a secret with you that I realized years ago which has subsequently guided and gilded my design career. Interior design is less about the interior of a place than it is about the interior of a person. Every client and every project I’ve ever worked on began with getting acquainted with the person before getting to know the place. Because I know that what makes a person tick; makes a room tick.
Now you may be asking yourself, “What makes me tick?” Great question. And that my friends is what this blog is all about. You.
How often do you get to take a moment out of your busy day and devote it solely to you? To be able to cut through the emotional and physical clutter of your life and get clear about what really has you be content, so much so that you’d be willing to parlay it into a paint color, a sofa style or an organized closet. Or better yet; a life you love. I understand what it takes to make that happen.
Change your home; change your life. And not necessarily in that order.
Until next time…

It’s so cool know more about the decoration world when you turn a simple wall in a incredible world…so anyway it’s great get more information and your decor style is for me really great!!!! 246 days ago

Congratulations on the new blog, Mark! Looking forward to plenty of new inspiration and ideas. Hope you will focus some of them on those of us who live with pets and how to create homes that are both pet and people friendly! 246 days ago
I consider myself extremely lucky to have rooms in my home that you decorated. You really understood me and my family, in some ways, more than we understood ourselves. As much as you changed my home, you also changed my livfe. Having such beauty and peace around me seemes to have brought out the beauty and peace within me. And living in such a healthy space has reflected in my personal health. I remain cancer free, and feel stronger and healthier than ever. And, the living and dining rooms have become my work speace. My clients feel so peaceful and open when they are here. I use the living room for Chakra balancing and the dining room for tarot, crystal and energy readings. My intuition has really opened up since you found the potential in my rooms and allowed me to find the potential in myself. I will never be able to thank you enough. You are forever in my heart. I wish you peace, love and continued abundance. 246 days ago

Mark, LOVE your work. I would love to hear any advice you might have for military families and the challenges we face with moving every two to three years…sometimes it can be hard making a space “yours” when you’re only there for a short time… 245 days ago
Mark:
To say that I was moved by the video is an understatement. Congratulations on a feat of brilliance filled with compassion. The news article at the end of the clip was the coup de gras…Yes, something as simple as design, lovingly concieved, can restore dignity where there has been none for generations.
Congratulations!

I saw you on nate helping Laurie, I have watched your show for years, I have a clutter problem and have. tried to get control of it for a couple of years now, it started when I got divorced and downsized twice. I have a daughter w/ADD which doesnt help much as soon as I get a hold on a room she makes a mess again,Im constantly cleaning up after her,Also I broke my back a few years ago and that has made things difficult. I try so hard and feel so defeated.I came on your site to get some ideas besides getting a container because I cant afford that on my disability. I really want an uncluttered house again. Its my dream… But I need help. I wish I had been Laurie she is a lucky woman. You are a genius with your design on Clean House. 242 days ago
